In Sync with the Lord

Has life ever take an unexpected turn on you?  Have you ever found yourself at a point where you don’t understand exactly what God is doing in your life?  That has happened to me more than once, and I have found that every time that happens it is at a point where I have gotten casual in my relationship with the Lord.  Things are going okay and my devotion time falls to the bottom of the to-do list.  I miss a day of scripture reading and that leads to another missed day.  Suddenly I am relying on my own devices instead of seeking the Lord’s will in my life…and then comes the unexpected turn or the difficult circumstance.

I’m not suggesting that there is some magic insulation from difficult times if we read the Scripture everyday.  It’s not that at all.  But what time with the Lord does is fix my eyes on Him, and those unexpected turns don’t seem so daunting when they come along.  I am better prepared to deal with difficult times when I am in sync with the Lord and His purposes.  It helps me see things through an eternal perspective and it gives me strength to face the challenges.  When Pastor Terry has a counseling appointment it always starts with the same questions.  How are you doing with the Lord?  Are you in His Word?  How is your prayer time?  These are important questions that we all need to ask ourselves.

“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.  I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.  For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.  O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You.”  Psalm 84:10-12

I was also in situations like these. I tend to forget God when things are going smoothly but when problems abound, I will seek for God's guidance. I feel selfish for being like this and for that, I truly apologize to God. I'm sure He understands. But with the help of a friend, I never forget to communicate with God. And our daily communication gives me a sense of calmness within.
