Precious in the Sight of the Lord

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15

In the last few weeks I have been to several funerals.  I am moved by the strength and grace that God gives to believers in these times of profound loss, and I am equally moved with compassion by the despair that I see when the deceased or their family do not believe in Jesus Christ.  As believers in Jesus we have a hope that the rest of the world cannot understand.  That hope is based upon God’s promises and His amazing faithfulness.  It’s one thing to make a promise, but it’s not meaningful if the person making the promise does not follow through.  But with God there is no shadow of turning away.  When our God makes a promise He always follows through.

There are so many instances of God showing His faithfulness and character, but there are a few verses that really stick out to me. They remind me that I can trust Him even in times of sorrow:

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments…” Deuteronomy 7:9

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” 2 Timothy 2:13

“For the word of the Lord is right, and all HIs work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.” Psalm 33:4

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23

”Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness.”  Lamentations 3:22-23

These are just a few verses that spoke to my heart about God’s faithfulness, and I am certain that you have your favorite verses that remind you that our God is faithful.  Meditating on His faithfulness allows a believer to be strong when the world would say you need to be in despair.  A true believer in Christ remembers that Jesus told us He has prepared a place for us and that we will be with Him forever.  We know that promise is true. What a comfort! We can trust our loving Father to keep us in the covering of His wings.  He will bring us through whatever we have to face, and He will keep His promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. So we can truly say that “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."

If you are feeling like there is nothing going right for you, then just look at the teachings of the Lord. I always think that the Bible is the best book to read at times like this. Of course, I know that not everyone is like me, but that does not mean that they cannot at least try. It is going to be difficult at first, that is a given, but believe me, it will get better. I hope that you get over this.
